Overview:
In Patchwork, two players compete to craft the most beautiful and highest scoring quilt on their own 9x9 board. Patches of various shapes and sizes are arranged in a circle, with a spool marker tracking which pieces are available to buy. Players start with five buttons which serve as both currency and victory points, and take turns purchasing patches or passing to earn more buttons.
Gameplay:
On your turn, you can buy one of the next three available patches clockwise from the spool by paying its button cost, then move the spool to that patch’s position. Place your new piece on your board and advance your time marker according to the patch’s time cost. If you cannot or do not want to buy, you may pass instead, moving ahead on the time track and gaining one button for each space moved.
Each patch may also show zero to three buttons, which generate button income whenever your time marker passes a button symbol on the track. Throughout the game, players also claim small one by one bonus patches placed along the time track and can earn an extra seven point tile by being the first to fill a seven by seven area of their quilt.
Endgame and Scoring:
The game ends once both players reach the center of the time track. Final scoring is simple: earn one point per button you still have, then lose two points for every empty space on your quilt board. The player with the highest total becomes the ultimate Button Master.
